What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting, also known as cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive procedure that helps you get rid of unwanted fat without having to put effort into exercising. It was developed by scientists at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.

This procedure is FDA-approved to treat visible fat bulges in the abdomen, flanks, and thighs. Some of the reasons why this procedure is considered to be safe and efficient include little or no downtime, natural-looking results, little or no pain, no scalpels or incisions, no chemicals/drugs, and no need for anesthesia.

A qualified doctor decides whether a patient is eligible for CoolSculpting or not, so it is very important to seek advice from a physician before deciding to go ahead with this procedure.

The ideal candidate for this procedure is a person who is struggling with fat bulges that have been impossible to remove through dieting or exercise. They should be seeking non-surgical spot reduction.

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

Fat cells are vulnerable to low temperatures. The technology behind this process aims at cooling these fat cells found beneath the skin. The lipids in the fat cells freeze and crystallize, making the fat cells die naturally, a process known as apoptosis.

As the fat cells die, the body safely and gradually filters them out over the course of the next two to six months. When the dead fat cells are successfully removed from the body, the circumference of the treated areas shrinks, causing a noticeably slimmed-down look.

How Is CoolSculpting Done?

The CoolSculpting procedure is done in a doctor’s office, and a plastic surgeon specialist supervises it. CoolSculpting is so safe and comfortable that the patient doesn’t feel any effects when the fat-freezing process is underway.

First, the target areas are marked and covered by gel pads that keep your skin protected from the cooling energy during the process. An applicator is then connected to a hose that delivers cold energy to the particular area.

Each device is made of two panels containing about 3,000 sensors on each side, and the applicator pulls the skin being treated between these two panels using suction. The applicator can be left for about an hour to work on your skin, and once the time is up, the doctor massages the treated area to restore blood circulation.

What Results Should I Expect?

In a few weeks’ time, you should see fat loss results. To achieve the full results you desire, you may need to consider having several CoolSculpting sessions.

Since the body continues to flush fat cells, the treated area can continue to reveal results up to the sixth month after treatment. If you maintain your weight by exercising and checking your diet, the results should be long-term and can remain stable.

Note that visible results vary with an individual’s initial fat deposit in the treated area, but in almost all cases, patients experience noticeable results.*
