Liposuction is a body-contouring procedure intended to reshape the body by removing targeted fat in areas where excess amounts exist. Though there are various types of liposuction, the basic premise of suctioning out the fat remains constant.
Some of the more common areas of the body that can benefit from liposuction are the waist and lower back, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms, and even the lower legs.
A liposuction procedure at its core involves the removal of body fat by suctioning it through a long, specialized tube called a cannula. The plastic surgeon gains access to the fat through tiny incisions (too small to indentify once fully healed) and inserts the cannula to both suction and help break up the fat simultaneously.
Most clients are placed under general anesthesia (meaning they are unconscious) to provide the most comfortable and pain-free experience possible.
Liposuction is commonly considered an outpatient procedure, which means that the patient is typically able to return home the same day after they awaken from the surgery. Although clients can return home, they’re still expected to follow careful instructions for healing provided by the surgeon.
Following surgery, there will be some expected swelling and bruising that will subside other next few days.
Types of Liposuction
At Laser MD Medspa, there a few options available for liposuction that allow for clients to further customize their treatments. Below are the variations of the liposuction procedure offered in order to provide improved results through less-invasive means.
Smartlipo™ – This variation on the procedure uses laser energy to break up fat cells, reduce cellulite, and tighten skin. It allows for a faster recovery time. With the assistance of the laser, Smartlipo offers the highest level of precision.
VASERsmooth™ – This lipo technique uses ultrasound technology to help selectively emulsify the fatty tissue and help separate it from the skin. By doing this, surgeons can generate much smoother results and avoid the dimpling that is common with liposuction.
VASERlipo™ – This advanced body-contouring technique also incorporates ultrasound technology capable of distinguishing between various body tissues like nerves and connective tissue. The ultrasound energy helps to liquefy fat without damaging the aforementioned nearby tissues.
Though the duration of the procedure will vary based on the amount of fat being removed, each of these liposuction options generally take anywhere from one to two hours.
The best way to determine which liposuction option is best for you is by sitting down with the doctor for a one-on-one consultation at Laser MD Medspa.
I first chose Laser MD Medspa because it was so much closer to my house. When I got there for the first time, I was very pleasantly surprised with the staff and how clean the place was. I was taken to the room promptly and the service was great. They did not try to sell me everything on the shelf and that is a big plus for me. I would recommend it to all my friends!
